The Saddest Thing

Wed mornings are spent scrubbing for Prof IC. I'm his designated scrub nurse & I'll always scrub for him unless I'm on leave. This morning, he shared this very sad piece of information with us. I'll not reveal the country, just the story.

In this particular country, everyone is so corrupted that if you're so sick that you had to go to the ED, you have to make sure you have enough money. You have to bribe the doorman before you can even be allowed to enter through the doors. Then you have to bribe the triage nurse so that you can get assessed by the triage nurse. After which, you have to bribe the junior doctor to ensure that you get seen by him.  After that, you have to bribe the consultant, so on & so forth.

I felt so sad hearing that. Have we become so corrupted by greed that we've lost every last shred of humanity? So they rather watch you die than treat you if you don't have the money to bribe them.

It could be us. It could be your kid dying in your arms. But you're just too poor to make the bribe. So you deserve to die. This is not the world I'll like to live in. But it's real. It's happening in the world. & there's nothing we can do.

Life is the greatest treasure of all. You can't buy an extra day of life for all the money in the world. We certainly have much to be thankful for.

Busy Running

I haven't been posting simply becoz I really didn't have the time. Last week, I clocked 47 hours. I literally only had time to come back from work, shower, feed the dogs, sleep & repeat. I don't dare to sleep less than 7 hours a night becoz of my long drives & I can't afford to nod off. How did I ever do 50+ hours a week, week after week in Sg??? No wonder I was so miserable back then.

Finally, we get to the 1st long weekend in March. We 1st came in autumn. Every autumn that approaches mark yet another year in Perth. How time flies. Due to the in advance planning of yours truly, our long weekend will be full of activities. Unwind, relax, no work & no fear the on call phone will go off. This is why I'm here. To do the things I never got a chance to do. To live the life I never got a chance to live.

I wonder if there's a path for us that no matter where we run to, will always follow us. I ran from my job in Sg only to end up having the same type of colleagues (good & not so good) as I did. I ran away, choosing to work as just a RN here than take up the offer of an APN position. Then my manager told me that she's making me deputy manager & had already informed HR about it. I don't know if it's a good thing. Perhaps, just a destiny that I'm unable to escape from.

Hit Me Baby 1 More Time

Nobody will believe me. Honest. Yesterday, when I was driving home after work, I got rear ended. Again. I had come to a stop for a red light & everytime I do, I'll check my rear mirror to make sure the car behind has stopped. She did. Completely. So when she hit me few seconds later, my 1st thought was that someone crashed into her & her into me. But no other car was behind her. I turned off the main road as soon as I could to check for damages.

Just was well the repairs from the previous crash can only be done in April as the boot door had to be shipped from Japan. There were no additional damages save for 1 extra scratch on my bumper. She apologised & said she wasn't paying attention. Texting while stopping at red light & her foot came off the brakes perhaps? She's young & as she's wearing her scrubs, she must be in her early 20s. I told her that it's alright as I'm sure the repairs will cover it.

Just on Thursday, I narrowly avoided getting hit from the side too. I was on the left most lane on a 3 lanes road. The driver of the car on the right most lane must have been daydreaming coz she didn't see the car in front of her stopped. She did an emergency brake, tires screeching & all, before swerving to the left. She was coming directly at me & I had nowhere to go. At the last second, she straightened up & swerved into the middle lane.

I seriously need bars that come out to encapsulate my car when I'm driving. Then fold themselves back under the car when I need to get out. Just as well Jazz hasn't been repaired yet or I'll have to bring it in again. How do I avoid getting hit? It's impossible against other people's inattention.
